Plastic you say! It’s everywhere!! Plastic is one of the most amazing inventions of the last 100 years. It is in our clothes, our toys, our cars, our boards, our houses ... well, it’s in just about everything!!!!
The use of plastic products in our everyday lives has become routine and frankly we probably can’t live without them. But there is a very big problem and we are looking to you, Grom Nation, for some serious help.
Can you believe that more than eight million tons of plastic wind up in our oceans every year? More than half of the 300 million tons of plastic produced every year is for just one single use. That means that it is “disposable,” like straws, cups, even the plates at your favorite taco joint, and of course water bottles.
Plastic is a valuable resource, for sure, but plastic pollution is one of the greatest threats that our oceans and our planet face today.
Here are Some Suggestions:
Stop Using Plastic Straws!!!!! More than 500 million of these straws are thrown away each and every day in the U.S. and Great Britain alone.
No MorePlastic Bottles Get your family to buy some reusable bottles and use filtered tap water.
Get Mom and Dad to Get Some Reusable Grocery Bags so you don’t use those yucky plastic ones that they give you at the store.
And Our Grom-in-Chief’s Special Tip: “If you see plastic or trash on the beach or anywhere for that matter, just pick it up and put it in the closest garbage can.”
Tell Dad — or You Groms Who are Sporting a Little Morning Stubble — to Stop Using Disposable Razors! Over 2 billion of these find their way into the trash and then landfills, and unfortunately some of them end up into the oceans every year.
